Why do people assume that the TVM is going to bring unbiased and balanced reporting of the Maldivian political situation?
Honestly, sometimes political naivety stuns me.
Just because the BBC had a spat early on with Mr. Tony Blair does not mean that the TVM has to follow suit.
TVM is the mouthpiece for our beloved leader Golhabo and has always been so. News items are directly faxed from the President's Office to the TVM news desk sometimes just minutes before the NEWS go on-air. This has been going on for several years.
Suddenly, everyone seems to think that things have changed or will change?
Oh no! no!
Things don’t change overnight. Just because someone somewhere told Golhabo there is such a thing in this world called democracy does not mean that he has to abandon his link to his subjects. How on earth will we live without seeing him on our screen everyday? Is he really going to subject us to see Anni instead? Come on! He cannot be that cruel to his people as to let loose Anni's ugly mug on our screen instead of his holy face?
The directors of Article 19, International Media Support, International Federation of Journalists etc may write to the Information Minister for the upteenth time but I doubt if anything more will happen apart from mere rhetoric.
Actually I wonder if anyone has done an audit of how many times Golhaabo has been seen on TVM news the last year leave alone the last 28 years? Or to make it simpler, it maybe easier to count the number of times he has NOT been on TVM news.
So if the TVM staff thinks that they can get away with leaking internal memos and letters to the public then they have another thing coming.
Today it maybe an internal investigation
Tomorrow it would be Alcatraz in Dhoonidhoo.
The Day After…who knows? Remember the likes of Ivan Naseem and Ali Shaahir…?

No? Who is this Ivan Naseem. I think I saw his name on a bumper sticker once. Or maybe it was a t-shirt. TVM isn't even good at its government mandated job. They have a lot to learn about churning out propaganda. They should give Rupert Murdoch a call.
I don't think anyone claims that Ivan Naseem is a saint. In fact, it does not matter how obnoxious Ivan Naseem may have been. The fact of the matter is he should not have been beaten to death in a Maldivian prison. THAT is my contention.
