Golhabo prevents Hassan Saeed from running for President

I heard that our beloved God and leader for Life, Golhabo is going to propose an excellent amendment to our constitution that would in effect put an end to Dr. Hassan Saeed’s Presidential bid. He is going to ensure that no one with a foreign wife can become the President of the Maldives. The excuse that his cronies give is that someone with a Jewish or Christian wife might become the President of Maldives. But I am flabbergasted as to why they did not propose exactly that? I mean surely if that is the case, why not just say so instead of using the word “Foreign”?

No, this is nothing but the most outrageous, vile and despicable act to block Dr. Hassan Saeed from ever running for office. Our beloved gutless leader for life was too chicken to even face Hassan Saeed at an election, even though Golhabo has all the state’s vote rigging machinery at his disposal. Not only that, they are also putting an age bar on it so that anyone below forty would not be able to run for office too - incase Dr. Hassan S might decide to divorce his wife.

All this reminds me of an Aesop’s Fable I used to read as a child.

The Wolf and the Lamb

WOLF, meeting with a Lamb astray from the fold, resolved not to lay violent hands on him, but to find some plea to justify to the Lamb the Wolf's right to eat him. He thus addressed him: "Sirrah, last year you grossly insulted me." "Indeed," bleated the Lamb in a mournful tone of voice, "I was not then born." Then said the Wolf, "You feed in my pasture." "No, good sir," replied the Lamb, "I have not yet tasted grass." Again said the Wolf, "You drink of my well." "No," exclaimed the Lamb, "I never yet drank water, for as yet my mother's milk is both food and drink to me." Upon which the Wolf seized him and ate him up, saying, "Well! I won't remain supperless, even though you refute every one of my imputations."

The tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny.

Fathin Hameed and the Finger

So the story about Fathin Hameed giving the finger to a journo is not going to slip through our fingers now that the Information Minister have got his finger in the pie. According to him “Fathin should apologize (if she gave the finger) to a press photographer” Minivan News. However Aneesa Ahmed apparently seems to think that the photo was doctored.

It is easy enough to play around a photo these days. Anyone who knows how to fiddle around Photoshop will not find it difficult to doctor a photograph and make it seems real. However, we should not point our finger at the person who took this photo just because we can play around Photoshop.

Fathin Hameed is the niece of our beloved Leader for Life and one of his unelected appointees. She was definitely in the Special Majlis because of who she is and not because she is someone with her finger on the pulse of the people of Maldives. As far as I have been told by a someone who claims he is a good friend of the family (I doubt about the “good” after hearing this story though hehe) that Fathin was always at odds with her own family even as a child. She had a long and amorous same-sex relationship with a colleague when she was working in the President’s Office and she later ended up with a PhD scholarship to New Zealand which was in reality given to a student from the Atolls. But Fathin managed to get it by giving her address as Reynige, Lh.Naifaru (the address of her mother). Anyway that’s the low down on Fathin Hameed according to this guy.

I am not trying to lay the finger on Fathin Hameed’s personal life. I do not give a toss if Fathin Hameed had a lesbian affair or not. However, as a Maldivian, I am concerned about the actions of our legislature. We cannot let this kind of behaviour slip through our fingers. If Fathin Hameed did indeed raise her finger, then she should be disciplined. The people of Maldives have burned their fingers too many times with the rotten behaviour of our legislature. This cannot continue.

First of all, our media works their fingers to the bone in trying to bring the news to the populace of Maldives. Just because someone is Golhabo’s niece she should not be allowed to get away by abusing our journalists. They need their protection as much as anyone else. Secondly, this type of behaviour is a god-awful example to our young. Perhaps when Fathin Hameed has had her child, she would realize that children are quick to copy adults and this sort of behaviour is just the thing we need to keep away from our children.

We cannot let this die down quietly. We cannot let Aneesa or DRP try and wrap us around their little fingers and forget about it. If they can have their way, they will not lift a finger to get to the bottom of this issue. Finger crossed (oops!), I mean Inshallah, Fathin Hameed will be made to realize that she cannot get away by this kind of abhorrent behaviour in public and should apologize to the press photographer.

AND I SAY NO MORE FINGERS.

if I am a Maldivian Buddhist, soon I would be stateless?

Yesterday, in the country that I once belonged to, just by a press of a button, I was made stateless.

All right, that's not quite true but før argument's sake, let us claim that I am a not a Muslim - it does not matter whether I am a Buddhist, Christian, atheist or even a devil worshipper. But I was born in the Maldives of Maldivian parents. So the new constitution when it comes into force would make me stateless right?

According to it the new constitution that is being drafted..

(A) The following persons are citizens of the Maldives:

1-Citizens of the Maldives at the commencement of this constitution
2-Children born to a citizen of the Maldives; and
3-Foreigners who, in accordance to the law becomes citizens of the Maldives.

(B) The citizenship of Maldives cannot be taken away from a citizen of Maldives.

(C) Any person who wishes to renounce the citizenship, can do so in accordance with the law.

(D) even if (A) of this article states so, none except a Muslim can become a citizen of Maldives

So how do they find out if a person was a Muslim? What is the proof? By virtue of them having a so-called Muslim name? I have several Lebanese friends who have so-called "Muslim names" but belong to a variety of religious beliefs..Druze, Christian, etc. So that is not a very good option is it? Just because someone is called Hassan or Fathimath does not make him/her a Muslim. Back to the drawing board...Will all Maldivians be given a test to determine if we were Muslims or not? But even that is no proof of Islam because anyone belonging to any other religion can study for it and pass. Hmm, no good at all.

The new constitution will also state that the citizenship cannot be taken away from a citizen of Maldives...so if I convert to Taoism..they cannot take my citizenship yet I am not a Maldivian by virtue of not being Muslim. WOW! What a paradox. It would be like hanging forever in limbo (or in Islamic terms walking forever on the Siraathumagu and not quite getting to heaven or hell?). Or perhaps it would be a bit like being caught in a blackhole..you are neither inside it nor outside it. Hmm, exciting.

Why is everyone so scared to admit it? Why are all of us in denial? Why do we need to live in a permanent delusionary state and claim that Maldives is 100% Muslim? Wake up you fools. Maldives is not even close to being a 100% Muslim country. We have amidst us people who follow all sorts of faiths as well as plenty of atheists. There is no way you can force them to believe in something that they don't want to. If you are Muslim and truly believe in Allah, would someone else be able to convince you to change your mind and worship the devil? Nah! They wouldnt. The same way if someone truly followed Buddha or Jesus or Bill Gates...they are not going to change their minds either. So just because your next door neighbour worships the Devil, does it make you less of a Muslim? Does it make you doubt your religion? If you could truly answer that question by saying "NO, it does not", then why are you so fearful of admitting that there are Maldivians who follow other religions?

As a Muslim I can truly claim that in an ideal world, I would love if all of us were Muslims and go to heaven. But then Allah SWT did not create an ideal world according to my vision....He created a hell and he also created other religions..and he also created people who do not believe there is a god. So why are we trying to do one better than him and try to create a Maldives where other religions do not exist?

There is only one answer to all these questions.. Golhabo definitely believes he IS God.

Oh and one more thing, all those of you who have always wanted to get out of Maldives and wanted live in freedom and cannot do so, now is the time to apply for asylum on the basis that you cannot practice your religion. It does not matter even if you are a Muslim. This is your chance to get out of Maldives. Claim that you are a Buddhist, Hindu, anything....apply for asylum in a country which respects freedom of religions. If you do get lucky, remember, Islam is supposed to be a religion of tolerance. Respect the rights of others to practice their faiths and do not try and impose your own beliefs on others. TOLERANCE is the key word here. Got it? If you cant, then just go back and worship Golhabo.

Buddha in the Maldives

If you are rich enough, you can flaunt any laws of the Maldives. Proven without a shadow of doubt by the enormous Buddha that Philip Green had requested for his birthday party.

But if you are a poor Hindu, you are not allowed to bring even a minute statue of Ram, Shiva or any other Hindu god for your own religious practice. No way. It will be confiscated and thrown into the sea.

And woe behold, if you are a Christian who dare to have a cross or a crucifix in your suitcase. Not only will it be confiscated by the customs but you will immediately be deported for being a Christian Missionary trying to convert us poor Maldivians. And if you had the misfortune of mentioning any of your local friends' names then they too will be thrown into Dhoonidhoo prison for being converts.

So there you have it. Golhaabo and his corrupt regime have shown to us Maldivians that if you are rich enough, he is quite happy to accommodate your every wish and desire, break any laws for you, as long as you throw him a few coins on your way out.

I have a Jewish classmate who is a fairly rich kid. Hmm, how much does he have to offer Golhaabo if he wants to bring his yarmulke with him?

Blogger Prison Sentence a slap in the face for freedom of expression

"Amnesty International today (22 February) condemned the four-year sentence handed down by an Egyptian court against blogger Karim Amer, and called for his immediate and unconditional release.

Amnesty International UK Director Kate Allen said:

"This sentence is yet another slap in the face of freedom for expression in Egypt.

"Karim Amer is a prisoner of conscience who is being prosecuted on account of the peaceful expression of his views.

"The Egyptian authorities must repeal laws which allow people to be thrown in prison just for exercising their right to free speech, be it online or offline.

'We are deeply worried that the Egyptian authorities are now targeting bloggers in their attempts to stifle free speech.

'Sadly this is not confined to Egypt. In countries around the world, governments are targeting bloggers, closing websites and censoring internet searches. The internet is the new front in the battle between those who want to speak out and those who would stop them.'

Karim Amer is the first Egyptian blogger to be tried for writing blogs criticizing Egypt's al-Azhar religious authorities, President Husni Mubarak and Islam. Charges against him included "spreading information disruptive of public order and damaging to the country's reputation", "incitement to hate Islam" and "defaming the President of the Republic".

Sounds familiar? No wonder my friend was worried about the blogging. Golhaabo studied in Egypt after all. Remember what he did to the Sandhaanu people?

putting the fun back in fundamentalism

Some friends of mine discussed recently about the growing fundamentalism in the Maldives..to be particular, one of them was extremely concerned that his rather liberal-free thinking-easy going girlfriend has suddenly decided to wear the buruqaa and cover herself up in a "black tent" as he calls it. He says that he is concerned that over night she has suddenly gone from being "areligious" to a "fundamentalist" and that "she does not really know what she's doing and she has definitely not thought about it thoroughly" as he puts it .

The rest of us beleives that he is just upset that she won't let him shag her anymore.

Leaving the predicament of my friend aside, it is true that this black-buruqaa clad culture IS growing at an alarming rate in the Maldives. Where does that lead us? If we are liberal then surely people should be free to choose how to dress as they want or is it more than just a buruqaa and an outer-garment we are talking about? Just because someone choose to dress in a certain manner doesn't necessarily means that she is not the same person you knew before or is it?

According to my friend, it is NOT.

The worst, he says, is that she can't even take a joke anymore.

So is being a "fundamentalist" mean you can't joke? I decided to check the internet for Islamic jokes and here are some I found.

WARNING: If you even remotely think you might be offended, just LOOK AWAY NOW.

----------
A Muslim father catches his son masturbating. He says, "Don't do that my son, or Allah will strike you blind." The child says, "Abu, I'm over here."

---------------

An Imam shocked his community when he announced that he was resigning from that particular Masjid and moving to a drier climate. After the session, a very distraught lady came to the Imam with tears in her eyes, "Oh, Imam, we are going to miss you so much. We don't want you to leave!" The kind hearted Imam said "Now, now, sister, don't carry on. The Imam who takes my place might be even better than me".

"Yeah", she said, with a tone of disappointment in her voice, "That's what they said the last time too . . . "

---------------

A man is taking a walk in Central park in New York. Suddenly he sees a little girl being attacked by a pit bull dog . He runs over and starts fighting with the dog. He succeeds in killing the dog and saving the girl's life. A policeman who was watching the scene walks over and says: "You are a hero, tomorrow you can read it in all the newspapers: "Brave New Yorker saves the life of little girl" The man says: - "But I am not a New Yorker!" "Oh ,then it will say in newspapers in the morning: 'Brave American saves life of little girl'" – the policeman answers. "But I am not an American!" – says the man. "Oh, what are you then? " The man says: - "I am a Muslim !" The next day the newspapers says: "Islamic extremist kills innocent American dog.

Acccording to my friend, I am Jewish

I am a JEW. It's official.

That is according to my friend H.

How did I warrant this honour? Well, it stared as a conversation, turned debate, turned argument, turned fight.

The gist of it was like this.

Me: Everyone should be allowed to study what they want to study

H: No, the government should decide what we should study.

Me: How can the government decide what we should study

H: Only the government knows what is best for the country

Me: What if the government wants someone to study medicine even though he faints at the sight of blood.

H: He will just have to study it.

Me: What about those studying privately?

H: Even they should not be allowed to study what they want. They should study what is good for the country

Me: that is ridiculous.

Blah blah blah fight fight fight

How did I end up being Jewish?

H: What if someone wants to study about another religion?

Me: Well, if someone wants to study about another religion so they should. It is not a bad thing to educate ourselves about other religions

H: You are saying it because you are a Jew. You should go and live in Israel

So it is official. According to my friend not only the government should dictate what we should study, I should also be living in Israel.

If he thought that by saying that to me that I will be offended, he cannot be more wrong. Israel incidentally is a very pleasant and beautiful country, nice place to live if you are Jewish. Ofcourse, if you are a Palestinian then it is a different story but my friend did not say that I should live in Israel because I am Palestinian. So by calling me a Jew, if he thinks I should be offended then he can think again.

By the way, if I should go and live in Israel, then don't you think my friend with his communistic views would fit well into Stalinist Russia? hehe

Alexander Litvinenko

BBC Report

Who killed the Russian ex-spy Alexander Litvinenko we would probably never know. Whenever there is a hint of foulplay involving the government of any state (mind you, I am not saying the Russian government actually killed him) ..but whenever there is a possibility or allegations made against a govt. then the mystery is almost never solved. So we shall probably never find out who was behind the radiation poisoning of this man or how it was actually done.

Which brings me to the statement by MDP that claims "Opposition leaders in exile have recently received warnings and threats to their physical safety. The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) calls upon the Maldivian government to cease and disavow the use of such violence to silence voices and eliminate challenges to their continued and unencumbered rule." MDP Statement

Now can this really be true? Can Golhaabo be so inhumane that he is willing to even assassinate opposition leaders in order to remain in power?

If the Litvinenko case is the stuff of a Frederick Forsyth novel then this MDP accusation remains far-fetched. However, if the Litvinenko case is really the work of the Russian secret service, then state-sponsored murder is not something that has a relevance only in the past. It exists today.

Ibra has left MDP

Why or why or why people feel that this is the demise of the MDP just because Ibra has left it. So what? big deal. A political party should be above one person or personalities. Why or why can't we get out of this mentality that everything revolves around one person. (Excuse me mum, I didnt mean you)

Why cannot we accept that politics is about people, not A PERSON. It should be about how the majority of the Maldivians feel and want. Not what Ibra wants. If he wants to leave a certain party then that is his decision. Well and good. But how does it affect the future of MDP? I don't think it does at all. I hope it does not anyway.

No one in politics is there because they have the people's wishes in their heart. They are there because they have an agenda of their own. But in that agenda, if there is something that benefits the whole country then we are half way there.

That makes me think - if we are still in that mentality that politics revolve around a person or should revolve around a certain person, then I think this new constitution should make sure that no one can be the President for more than 1 term. I think 5 years is more than enough. If we keep anyone any longer than that, then he is bound to become "GOD".

As for Ibra, grow up people. He's just one guy compared to the rest of the Maldives. So what if he left MDP? Big deal..big deal...big deal...

golhaa is demented - big deal

OK so golhaa is demented. Tell me something that I don't know.

We knew he was demented when he admitted carrying weapons when he took his oath of office. What idiot, moron, imbecile, whateveryoumaycall, would actually admit that to the whole of Maldives that he has broken the law when he took oath. He was demented then and he is demented now.

So why has this news suddenly surfaced? Ah I get it. Some one in golhaa's palace finally had enough of his memory lapses, "I don't know where I am" moments, totally insane "executive decisions" to go public with the news.

Under normal circumstances when someone leaks info about golhaa, he or she would be shitting bricks incase they are frog-marched to Alcatraz in Dhoonidhoo.

Not this time. This time he/she can rest in peace because Golhaa would not remember that someone had leaked this story about his illness to the public.

What story?

hehehe

It is time I created one

My friends have been asking me for some time now - why don't I create a blogspot. My initial reaction was, for what? I write what I want to write when I want to write without the need for a blog spot.

But, recently, I have started to come around to the idea of a blogspot. Especially when I saw that the blogspot Subcontinentsouth was giving an hour by hour update of the Addu Dhoni incident when no one else was doing so (not even Dhivehi Observer was that quick).

So why don't I create one even if its to satisfy my friends?

AND HERE IT IS.

I must warn you though - this is going to be hard reading, few hometruths, because I am not someone who mince his words. I like speaking my mind and it may not be easy for some to swallow.

Let's see how it goes
